Discerning Godly Shepherds in a Noisy World

Discerning godly shepherds takes prayerful attention to who God has truly appointed to lead us.

By far, sheep are not the smartest creatures God created. Sheep will go wherever they’re led, even if that leading is right off a cliff. Whether we want to admit it or not God likens us to sheep; we are not sheep because we are human beings made in the image of God, rather, we are like sheep because of how easily we can be led.

With the advent of social media, politicians becoming celebrities, ordinary people becoming influencers, and pastors shepherding flocks of tens of thousands in mega-churches—the desire to lead others and the willingness to be led is something possibly not experienced since touchpoints in human history such as the tower of Babel and the dominance of the Roman Empire. The entire world mostly speaks one language again with translation being a touch away.

Jeremiah’s message from God is exceedingly important for us to heed. God would not appoint shepherds if we did not need them—the question is not whether we’ll follow them it’s whether we’ll recognize their appointment. Will we continue to be rebellious children or will we prayerfully discern who God has appointed as shepherds to lead us in His path.

Always improve the present moment.
