Doing the Will of God

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven" (Matthew 7:21).

The sign of a true follower of Christ is someone who is doing the will of God, and that obedience always bears good fruit (Matt. 7:15-20). It isn't enough to simply say the right words; the proof is in the life that follows.

The Power Behind Doing the Will of God

Paul says, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (Galatians 2:20a). That's easier said than done, but remember, Jesus wouldn't have promised the kingdom to those doing the will of God if it weren't actually possible for us.

We must be careful we're not blithely proclaiming Jesus as Lord while ignoring the power the Holy Spirit already gives us to live differently. Seize hold of that power. In Luke 24:49, Jesus sends the promise from the Father, the Holy Spirit, which clothes us and fills us with power from on high.

It is the life of Christ, the power of the Spirit, and the will of God that transform us into people capable of far more than we imagine, people who can bring the kingdom of heaven here on earth. Someday, doing the will of God in the small, ordinary moments will be what we hear about when our Master says, "Well done, my good and faithful servant" (Matt. 25:23).
