More Than Enough: "The Final Lesson": Holy Week
"But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.” ~2 Corinthians 12:9
Our Father Is More Than Enough
Like many of you, during Lent, I have found myself going without certain meals, sometimes on purpose, sometimes on accident. On Palm Sunday morning, before church, an unforeseen task popped up. Did I have to deal with it then? Probably not. But I felt like I should take care of it. After a while, I realized I wouldn’t get to eat breakfast and make it to church on time. As I wrote about last week, I became somewhat of a martyr (in my mind) for not consuming a delicious breakfast burrito I was looking forward to making. I began to blame my wife for the situation, the start time of our group, and the fact that I had to get out in blustery weather. Grumbling, as I walked up to the group I was leading—I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Am I still not enough to sustain you?” I was incredibly convicted at that moment. I could’ve gotten up earlier or put the task off until that afternoon; instead, I wanted to make myself a victim. Food should not have that much power over me to the extent I believed it was my sustenance instead of God. I have realized this Lent that I left Jesus’s first lesson in the desert (Matt. 4:4) for my last lesson.
Always improve the present moment.
