The Truth Is Not a Pretzel
One of my wife’s favorite treats is a large, soft Auntie Anne’s pretzel baked with salt and dipped in cheese. We go to the mall every year to get a free one for her birthday. I've noticed on their menu they're selling pretzel dogs, a hot dog baked in bread. Umm...call it for what it is: it's a pig-in-a-blanket! It’s that loopty-loop shape that makes a pretzel a pretzel!
Today, many international Christian leaders are telling us the truth is, in fact, shaped like a pretzel. The truth isn’t straight and narrow, apparent, or clear cut—it’s nuanced, flowing in ways we haven’t considered. Truth must be reevaluated, updated, and modernized to fit contemporary mores, or so they would have us believe. Be on guard against anyone who speaks this way or tells you to “follow your truth” because they are “false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matt. 7:15).
I understand it is more complicated than ever to recognize the truth. As Christians, we should derive truth from only one source! Jesus tells us, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the Truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come” (Jn. 16:13).
Pilate asks Jesus before his death sentence what the truth is, to which Jesus answers that all those who are of the Truth (his followers) will listen to His voice. Jesus prays that God will “Sanctify [us] by [His] truth. [His] word is truth” (Jn. 17:17). John confirms that no lie can come from the truth and whoever pretends to speak in truth is actually an antichrist. Jesus doesn’t mince words: “You are of your father the devil. [He] does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (Jn. 8:44).
Don’t be fooled! THE TRUTH is not confusing! If the Truth looks like a pretzel, then it is not valid! The Truth is as recognizable as a pretzel, but the Truth is not a pretzel.
